Feeling Sad? Try a little dancing, seriously....

I know, I know, I know… what works for me may not work for you.

But we are talking about DANCE, people!


There’s plenty of research out there on the benefits of dance: both the benefits it shares with other other exercises AND the benefits that are unique to dance.


We have talked about the Physical Benefits of dance and the Mental Benefits of dance.


Feeling Good Now is 100% possible, and Forever Young is not even a joke anymore.


So now, let’s talk about the…




EMOTIONAL BENEFITS OF DANCE



YOU CAN SIT WITH US:

Dance is inclusive.

If you are able to move any part of your body, you can dance. It’s a leveled “play” field.

You don’t have to be able to lift 100 lbs, you don’t have to be a long distance runner, you don’t have to be amazing at handstands… dance does not discriminate.





DANCE CAN BE A SOCIAL ACTIVITY:

Of course you can dance alone, but there’s something magical about dancing with others, sharing that good energy. Being around others when dancing can be very beneficial for your social and emotional health. It’s quite amazing connecting with someone without using words.

DANCE CAN IMPROVE YOUR MOOD:

I am using the word CAN because you are never supposed to make promises you have no control over… BUT… Dance ALWAYS boosts my mood. It’s one of those things I always have to remind myself of. Whenever I’m going through a sad, stressful, "joy-sucking" period in my life, I always have to remind myself “go take a dance class”. It’s unbelievable what it does for me. No, it doesn’t fix the problem at work, or it doesn’t eliminate the thing that’s causing me stress/anxiety/sadness. What it does is it gives me perspective. In addition to the real chemical reactions taking place in my brain which releases all kinds of happy hormones, my time dancing reminds me how blessed I am to be able to move and express myself with my body and not my lips. It’s freeing. It reminds me I am more than what I make myself to be. My mind can now focus on positivity.
