Isn't WATER just WATER?


It should be... but it's not.

Unfortunately in the United States a lot of companies add sodium to their water. Why? So you stay thirsty. Awful, I know! A lot of water sold to us are acidic. So consumers go for the more expensive water, betting that it's better for us.

IT IS better,... right?

Not necessarily.

Now, why does it matter?

Various Mechanisms in your body work together to maintain a proper pH balance throughout the body.

The acidity or alkalinity of a substance is measure using pH. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic, 14 being the most alkaline, and 7 being neutral. To survive, our bodies must maintain a pH very close to 7.4, which is just on the alkaline side of neutral. If your body's pH varies too much from this ideal, it becomes difficult for various enzymes to function properly.

Maintaining this slightly alkaline state is a challenge due to the acid producing foods we consume. Few foods are neutral, while most foods are either "alkaline-producing" or "acid-producing". Bringing the body's pH closer to 7.4 helps get rid of many health problems.

Let's focus on overacidity:

Overacidity has even been linked to the formation of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

Symptoms of Over-Acidity
  • Constant fatigue

  • Easily running out of breath

  • Frequent sighing

  • Muscle pain or cramping after walking short distances

  • Often feeling like you can’t get enough air

When people are very acidic, their tissue levels of oxygen are so low that they have difficulty holding their breath for more than 20 seconds. The length of time you can hold your breath is one technique you can use to document the difference that occurs after adapting a more alkaline-producing diet.

There are home tests available, as well.

Consider the following:

• Proponents of drinking alkaline water believe in its many proposed health benefits, which include:

  • anti-aging properties (via liquid antioxidants that absorb more quickly into the human body)

  • colon-cleansing properties

  • immune system support

  • hydration, skin health, and other detoxifying properties

  • weight loss

  • cancer resistance

• Some studies show, however, that too much alkalinity may also agitate the body’s normal pH, leading to metabolic alkalosis, a condition that produce symptoms of:

  • nausea

  • vomiting

  • hand tremors

  • muscle twitching

  • tingling in the extremities or face

  • confusion

While there are studies on both sides of the spectrum, one supporting the consumption of Alkaline water and one against it, the fact is your body likes a pH of 7.4 (simply to survive and function).

Do your own study on it and try it out for yourself. Just remember that no matter where you fall in the "Support of Alkaline Water Consumption Spectrum", an acidic body is dangerous. Period. There is no denying that. Your body is smart and will convert acidic foods in the digestive track and equalize its pH, but it can only handle so much. If your diet is mainly acidic, your body is not going to like you. It can only do so much before it starts "breaking down".
